Vocational training centre under UNRC inaugurated

TURA: The Vocational Training Centre under United Nations Resource Centre was inaugurated o Saturday at SMELC, Tura by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma.

The centre will impart vocational training to students with the minimum qualification of tenth passed in different trades like Carpentry, Apparel Making, Masonry and Scientific Gardening to start with.

Addressing the gathering at the Inaugural Function, Dr Sangma said that there is a need of synchronization of efforts by the Government and different stakeholders to bring about an attitudinal change in the mindset of the youth and have dignity of labor and entrepreneurship.

The Vocational Training Centre will have courses designed on the potential and needs of the region he added. Dr Sangma also informed that fund has been sanctioned for a new programme, Incubation Centre for Women & Youth Entrepreneurs where opportunities will be made available to them even after the completion of various skill based trainings.

Lauding the efforts of the United Nations in setting up the training centre he said that UN activities should be intensified in the area. Also present at the function was Minister, Labor and Urban Affairs, Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh.

She appealed to all to take unemployment by the neck by participating in the various intervention of the labor department which has started various market driven courses.

She was hopeful that the setting up the vocational training centre would bring about positive headways.
