SHILLONG: Two teachers of Ryngkuskong SSA Lower Primary School have complained that their services have been terminated for raising their voice against the school management committee. They have also written to the Meghalaya Education minister, Chief Secretary, East Khasi Hills Sub-Divisional School Education Officer and Director General of Police for remedial steps and necessary action.
The appointment of teachers to the SSA school is done by the managing committee with the approval of the education department of the state.
“School teachers are suffering in silence at the hands of the managing committee which is an injustice and pose dangers to literacy,” CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said, adding that the organization has filed RTI to unearth discrepancies in the functioning of the school.
The school managing committee had lodged an FIR against a teacher David R Marak, a teacher of the school on May 12, who was served with an undated termination letter while another teacher, Saul Chism Sangma was threatened with dire consequences.
According to Sangma, he had joined the school in 2009 without getting any appointment letter from the managing committee.
“The managing committee also made unaccountable salary deduction for bus fare that amounts to Rs 500 to Rs 2000 per month,” Sangma stated at a news conference on Monday.
