Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Tuesday allocated portfolios to his nine-member council of ministers, who were sworn in on June 1 .
Senior minister Tanga Byaling has been allocated the important Home portfolio (excluding vigilance) along with Power (Electrical) and Non Conventional energy departments, another senior member Chowna Mein got the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development departments, official sources informed.
Former Finance Minister Kalikho Pul was given the portfolios of Health and Family Welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment, Tribal Affairs, Women and Child Development along with Parliamentary Affairs.
While Kamlung Mossang got Food and Civil Supplies along with Geology and Mining and Water Resources Development department, Tapang Taloh was given the charge of Education, Libraries, Textile, Handloom and Handicrafts departments.
Former Tourism Minister Pema Khandu had retained the same portfolio in addition to Urban Development, Town Planning, Housing, Municipal Affairs and Arts and Culture.
The important Public Works department has been retained by Gojen Gadi, while Kumar Waii was allocated the portfolio of Rural Works department and new face Takam Pario was allocated the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply department.
The departments not assigned to any cabinet ministers remained with the chief minister, sources added.
Nabum Rebia elected Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly
The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly today unanimously elected veteran Congress MLA Nabum Rebia as Speaker and Tsering Norbu Thongdok as the deputy. All members cutting across party line elected Rebia, a former Rajya Sabha MP and Parliamentary secretary (Planning) in the previous government. Tumke Bagra (BJP), who filed nomination along with Thongdok for the post of Deputy Speaker, later withdrew from the race.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while congratulating both Rebia and Thongdok expressed hope that both the leaders would live up to the expectation of the members and ensure justice and equal rights to all the members.
Opposition leader Tamiyo Taga (BJP) urged the newly elected speaker and his deputy to initiate measures for conducting orientation programme for new members.
There are 19 new faces in the Assembly. Rebia and Thongdok in their remarks asserted to uphold the dignity of the post by living up to the aspirations and expectation of the members. (PTI)
