5th senior masters badminton begins

SHILLONG: In what is a historic moment for the people of South West Khasi Hills, Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA Rowell Lyngdoh inaugurated the three-day 5th Senior Masters (Veterans) State Level Badminton Championship, the first state level sporting event in the district, at the Mawkyrwat Indoor Stadium on Thursday.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion were former KHADC Chief Executive Member and Ranikor MDC Manstudy Nongrum, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Ripnar Lyngdoh, secretary of the Meghalaya State Badminton Association Rajesh Kamal, president of the South West Khasi Hills District Badminton Association HS Diengdoh and secretary of SWKHDBA Basan P Lyngdoh.

Basan P Lyngdoh informed that 79 participants, including seven women, from all over the state are participating in the prestigious tournament.

He said that the event will be held at two separate venues – Mawkyrwat Indoor Stadium and Mawlangwir Indoor Stadium.
