TURA: Former Assembly Speaker ED Marak, who contested the last Assembly elections from BJP, has demanded action against the State BJP president Khlur Singh Lyngdoh and general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty for several lapses committed by the duo.
Marak, who is also the vice-president of BJP, said in a statement issued here on Thursday that the office bearers of BJP in Garo Hills along with senior members from Khasi-Jaintia Hills were unhappy over the state of affairs in the party under the leadership of Lyngdoh and Chakraborty.
Marak alleged that the present president did not maintain transparency and accountability in the case of the ongoing construction of party office at Bivar Road.
He also alleged that the party was being run violating the provisions of the constitution of BJP. “The BJP general secretary has failed to conduct organizational elections besides convening regular executive committee meetings,” Marak said.
Marak also alleged that in the last elections Chakraborty had demanded 50 % of the fund allotted by the Central office for electioneering from ticket aspirants like Ionish A Sangma and Nitai Kr Baksaka from Gambegre and Tikrikilla respectively in Garo Hills . “Since both refused to give in to the demand, they were denied ticket though their winning prospect was very bright,” Marak said.
The former legislator said that the matter was brought to the notice of the central leaders of BJP. “The present president is only a puppet in the hands of Chakraborty and former president H S Syiemlieh,” Marak said, adding that Syiemlieh was appointed as the Chairman of State Election Committee which is against the Constitution of the Party since the President himself should chair all important state election committee meetings.
In this context, Marak said that the BJP in Garo Hills has decided not to field candidates in the elections to GHADC. Marak also alleged that considering the worsening law and order situation in Garo Hills, the state BJP president and general secretary failed to meet the Chief Minister to take up the matter. He also said that BJP state leadership does not want to discuss the issues of ILP and Garoland demand. Marak, while demanding the removal of the state BJP President and the general secretary said that the increased vote share of the party in the Lok Sabha Polls in Shillomg is not because of the efforts of the party leadership, but due to Modi wave. Marak also asked the central leadership to appoint a new President and general secretary for the state BLP after dissolving the present body.
