Shillong: GNLA supremo Champion R Sangma, who is lodged in Shillong Jail, is allegedly using his Facebook account and WhatsApp too.

Champion manages five Facebook accounts, one of them in the name of Rangbil Sangma, sources have informed The Shillong Times.

Champion’s posts are provocative and have a huge following.

But the question is how can a militant leader who was arrested from across the border for criminal activities be given this preferential treatment within the jail.

When contacted, AIG (Prisons) MK Sangma said that they have no intelligence inputs on this and also said he would not be able to comment on this matter.

Director General of Police (Prisons) Prem Singh echoed Sangma. He said, “We have no information about Champion using a mobile phone or the internet to operate his Facebook accounts but we will enquire into this, now that it has been brought to our notice.”

Sources say that the jail administration continues to be slack and despite the strictures against some jail staff for smuggling in stuff from visitors to the jail inmates which were detected during the Fullmoon Dhar episode, nothing seems to have changed.

Sources also inform that Champion’s mobile numbers are 87942 01658 and 84130 55138. They say Champion uses the chat space on his Facebook page to chat with his ‘friends’.
