Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday expressed hope that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would improve relation with the states. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he is keen to improve relations with the states. He had been a chief minister for long and he might have known how the states are deprived in many ways. We hope he would pay attention to the genuine demands of the states,” Sarkar said.

The Chief Minister, however, said, “We have to remain alert and have to get our demands met through movements. We cannot be complacent.” Sarkar was addressing a gathering on the birth centenary of Marxist patriarch and former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu here.

Stating that a new situation had emerged in the country recently, he said Communist parties have to face the challenge.

CPI-M Politburo member Biman Bose said, Jyoti Basu had always fought against communalism and emerged as people’s leader by organising movements for the masses.

He alleged that an “unprecedented terror” was let lose by the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal. “We have given a deputation to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the terror. We have also decided to organise a mass sit-in in Kolkata on June 25,” he said. (PTI)
