Shelter home for women in Tura

SHILLONG: With no shelter home in Garo Hills to rehabilitate the women victims of violence and other forms of harassment, a High Power Committee (HPC) headed by Meghalaya Chief Secretary WMS Pariat on Tuesday approved the setting up of a shelter home in Tura under the Backward Regions Grant Fund at the cost of Rs 50 lakh.

The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said that a meeting was held in Shillong to discuss the matter.

Bakhsi, who attended the meeting, said that the HPC approved the proposal and this will be sent to the Centre for sanction of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of shelter home.

At present, there is only one shelter home for the women in the entire State located at Laitumkhrah
