SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will leave for Delhi on Thursday to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the law and order situation in Garo Hills.

The Chief Minister is also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

An official source on Wednesday said that the main agenda of the meeting of the Chief Minister with the Union Home Minister will be the early signing of peace pact with ANVC and appointment of a mutually accepted interlocutor for peace talks with GNLA.

After the signing of draft peace pact with ANVC and ANVC-B in January 2013, there has not been much progress on the matter till date.

Though the Cabinet committee headed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved the peace pact early part of this year, this will again come up before the Cabinet of the new Government for final consideration.

As far as GNLA is concerned, the State Government wants the Centre to approve the name of the interlocutor to start the process of dialogue.

Official sources said that during his meeting with the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister would also seek adequate forces for Garo Hills to tackle militancy.

Several companies of Central paramilitary forces have already arrived in Garo Hills.

Urgency to tackle militancy arose after the brutal killing of 35-year-old Josbina Sangma by GNLA militants which sparked nationwide criticism.
