VDP rally to check crime held at Sohiong

SHILLONG: The firs VDP Rally of Sohiong circle was held at Sohiong Village which was organized by the East Khasi Hills District Police covering Sohiong and Mawngap area. The rally was attended by VDPs and other village elders.
SDPO Sohra explained to the members on VDP rules, relevant sections of the IPC and CrPC. The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, M Kharkrang gave an awareness on the need to resist public taking the law into their own hands while dealing with alleged ‘Mensohnoh’ the legal implication to it and the commitment of the district police to book such people who take the law into their own hands.
Crime against women and children and role of VDP to prevent such crime, awareness among public to report commission of crime immediately without fear were also highlighted.
He appreciated the role of VDPs for their vigilance in the area for preventing the crime. On the occasion the S.P rewarded the VDP of Nongbsap for good work.
Witchcraft arrest
After the arrest of 11 persons, police are further  investigating the assault case at Sohra of the victim identified as  Larningstar Kharbani (28) a differently abled person  of Umkrem, Mairang, West Khasi Hills
The arrested persons are in police custody for two days.
