Eco-friendly crematorium inaugurated in EJ Hills

JOWAI: Parliamentary Secretary In charge Education, Justine Dkhar on Saturday inaugurated an eco-friendly crematorium or Ka Khnap Thangbru in Pnar dialect at Wapungshnong village in East Jaintia Hills District.

The crematorium was constructed by the Dorbar Shnong and funded by the Member of Parliament Vincent H Pala.

Pala had contributed Rs. 10 lakh from the MP Scheme.

Former MLA, Nehlang Lyngdoh has contributed Rs. 1.5 lakh and the remaining expenditure was borne by the Dorbar Shnong through contribution of the villagers.

The construction of the eco-friendly crematorium was based on the design of its inventor, Late Kambel Chullai.

Village General Secretary, C Dkhar informed that the construction of the crematorium will greatly help the people of the village.

The Sein Raij Jowai president, JK Passah who also spoke on the occasion informed that the Sein Raij Jowai is the sole authority to issue No objection Certificate (NOC) to any village who want to construct the crematorium based on the designed and model of Late Kambel Chullai.
