The GSU said that the PWD rural roads, the only routes which connect the vital areas in the region, has been in a dilapidated condition for decades yet the concerned department has not taken any initiative to repair them.

“The PWD rural roads of the region, a stretch of about 5-6 km from Tikrikilla Main Bazaar to the rest of the hilly regions via Bakhripara villages was black topped between the years 1980-1990 following which they have been ignored without even a single repair since then causing grave problems for the general masses of the region,” stated Walseng Nengminja, president of GSU, Tikrikilla unit, in a prss release.

Meanwhile, in another press release issued by the Union, the GSU has requested the State Government to create posts for Garo teachers for Tikrikilla Girls UP and Secondary School.

“The school established in 2000 with English as general medium as instructions has, till date, not a single Garo teacher to teach students who prefer to take Garo as MIL,” said the GSU president.
