Kohima: The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has sought public patience and co-operation before judging Nagaland’s Chief Minister TR Zeliang as his government is yet to resume its activities in full swing.
In a communiqué issued by the media officer to the Chief Minister, Karaibo Chawang, said the state government is on the verge of resuming its activities in full swing after a brief interregnum.
As such, it is too early to come to conclusion at this stage that the Chief Minister is in ‘quandary’ and his first public address is marked with ‘negativity or defeatist position’.
The CM’s office also clarified on the Chief Minister’s statement that ‘It is more difficult to implement policies than to frame them.’
Chawang interpreted that what the Chief Minister meant to say was that while it is difficult to formulate any policies or vision in the interest of the state and its people, it is more difficult to implement without active co-operation and support of the officers and participation of the people.
His statement should not be misconstrued as the government will not implement the policies framed by them without the participation of the people, he said.
Regarding the statement “a Minister or MLA alone cannot solve boundary dispute,” Mr Chawang said it is quite obvious that boundary dispute is long pending issue which is very complex and sensitive in nature and is beyond the capacity of any individual Minister or MLA or for that matter the government alone to settle the issue, since it requires intensive and extensive consultation with the state government machineries, tribal hohos, NGOs and most importantly, close co-ordination and negotiation with disputing counterpart and arrive at an amicable and acceptable settlement to all the party involved.
The CM is seriously concern over the boundary dispute and is very keen in resolving this issue without further delay, for which he has mooted to take up the issue with his counterpart at the earliest time possible, the media officer stated.
On road conditions of the state, the CM’s office admitted that the road conditions in the state are in deplorable state.
However, with the approval of three more national highways in the state by the central government besides the existing National Highway 29, the state is expected to have better road in future.
Moreover, the construction of Foot Hill Road is under submission and double lane of various districts and sub-divisional roads are in progress as such people can expect good road in near future, it said adding the Chief minister is of the view that unless people, especially the landowners, co-operate in the implementation process of such major projects it will be difficult for the government to deliver the goods to the people at the expected time.
