Muzaffarnagar riots: Case filed against 10 community leaders

Muzaffarnagar: District authorities have filed a case against 10 political and community leaders including ex BSP MP Kadir Rana and former Uttar Pradesh minister Saeeduzama of Congress for allegedly making inflammatory speeches. The case was filed on Monday in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Garima Choudhry in connection with the alleged hate speeches made in Khalapar locality of the city on August 30, 2013 by the accused in defiance of prohibitory orders clamped following tension in Kawal village in the district. They have been charged with violating prohibitory orders and inciting communal tension by making inflammatory speeches, the Additional District Magistrate Indermani Tripathi said here today. The court has fixed July 1 for further hearing in the case. The special investigation team (SIT) probing riots cases has already filed chargesheets against these 10 leaders in various sections of IPC in connection with the alleged hate speeches, Tripathi added. RS bypoll: Only AIADMK candidate’s nomination found valid

Chennai: Stage is set for declaring AIADMK’s A Navaneethakrishnan as the winning candidate in the bypoll to Rajya Sabha, as nominations of other four candidates were rejected on Tuesday. When the nominations were taken up for scrutiny, four were found invalid and “it is announced that the nomination of A Navaneethakrishnan is found valid,” Assembly Secretary and Presiding Officer for the bypoll A M P Jamaludeen said. The last date for withdrawing nominations is June 26. The bypoll for Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu was necessitated after a sitting DMK MP T M Selvaganapathy was disqualified, after he was convicted in a corruption case. (PTI)

Centre not interfering on Governors’ issue: Alva

Jaipur:  Brushing aside the controversy over removal of UPA-appointed governors by the Central government, Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alav on Tuesday said there was no interference in Governors’ issue by the centre. “No such issue. There is no interference in governors’ issues by the Centre”, Alva told reporters on sidelines of a function here. “Though some of the governors resigned ahead of finishing their terms…it is up to each one of them on how they deal with it. It is a constitutional post,” she added. “I finish with my term on August 5, 2014, and before which I will reach Bangalore..before that I will meet press too”, Alva said. Last week when the Rajasthan Governor met the President and Prime Minister in the national capital, Raj Bhawan had issued a statement saying that it was Alva’s “planned courtesy call” and she has not received any directive or phone call to quit office. CGHS empanelled hospitals asked to provide credit facility to ex-Guvs

New Delhi: Government has directed private hospitals empanelled under the CGHS to provide credit facility to former Governors and their dependent family members. “It is emphasised that the former Governors or Lieutenant Governors and their eligible family members shall be provided cashless medical treatment by all Central Government Health Scheme empanelled private hospitals/diagnostic laboratories/ imaging centres as per the laid down procedures and guidelines under CGHS,” an office memorandum said. Union Minister to work for setting up bauxite factory

Lohardaga (Jharkhand): Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sudarshan Bhagat has said he would make efforts in setting up a bauxite factory in Lohardaga. “Lohardaga is rich with bauxite. I will try to bring bauxite factory in the district,” Bhagat, who represents Lohardaga constituency, told reporters on a visit here on Monday. Lohardaga is famous for bauxite but sends the mineral outside as it has no factory of its own. Stating that he would work for the poor, the minister also said his endeavour would be to extend railway lines till Korba in Chhatisgarh via Gumla. (PTI)
