SHILLONG: Anjan Chakraborty, Inspector of Police (CID), Shillong against whom two FIRs have been registered has gone absconding.
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang on Friday said that Anjan Chakraborty has gone out of Shillong even before the case was registered and police is trying to trace him.
Earlier, one Kurana Sidhu Ghosh had lodged a complaint at Shillong Sadar police station that Anjan Chakraborty, introduced him to one Gopinath Das, Chairman, Global Engineering Development Corporation, Kolkata, who promised him to sanction a loan of Rs. 1 crore at the rate of 14 percent interest per annum.
However, on February 27, this year, an MoU was signed by both the parties and an amount of Rs. 19,50,000 was paid by the complainant as processing fees.
During the month of March / April 2014, the Company issued two cheques of Rs. 50 lakh through Central Bank of India, Park Street, Kolkata, in the name of the complainant. However, both the cheques bounced.
According to Kharkrang, the police have registered a case and the matter is being investigated.
One Ranadhar Dhar had also lodged a complaint at Shillong Sadar police station that on December 7, 2013 at around 3 pm, Anjan Chakraborty, Inspector of Police (CID), Shillong, went to his shop at GS Road, Shillong and offered to supply cameras to him. Later, he took one camera valued around Rs. 14,000 from his shop as sample piece but did not return the same till date.
Meanwhile Anjan Chakraborty in a clarification on Friday said that he had taken the camera on installment and he had paid his first installment and again he paid cash Rs 3000 to Ranu Dhar.
According to him, He also met Dhar and assured that the remaining money will be paid within one month but Ranu Dhar told him to pay the money immediately otherwise he has good connection with Home Minister Roshan Warjri and the president of Khasi Students Union.
“I came back to Kolkata and Ranu met Roshan Warjri and complained about me and Home Minister instructed SP Shillong to file a case against me and a case was registered,” Anjan Chakraborty said in the clarification. He also said that he will file a counter case against Ranu and some others who instigated for registering a case.
As per Anjan Chakraborty, a copy of the clarification was also sent to SP East Khasi Hills but SP denied having received any such clarification.
