NDFB militant killed in encounter
Guwahati: An NDFB(S) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam’s Chirang district Thursday night. Acting on the tip off about the movement of NDFB(S) militants in Bishnupur area under Bijni police station, troops from 15th Bn SSB laid an ambushed. The ambush party observed movement of a group of suspected NDFB(S) cadres at Dhaula village. The SSB party challenged the militants but was fired upon, leading to a gunfight, official sources said. The exchange of the fire lasted for about 50 minutes. On Friday morning, the entire area was search and security forces found the body of a militant who was killed in the gunbattle. The slain militant has been identified as Digen Doimary (28). Combing operation is on the area to nab the fleeing militants. All the BOPs in the Bhutan border have been alerted and directions have been issued to look for the other militant, an SSB official said. (UNI)
Assam Muslim employees may leave office early during Ramzan
Guwahati: The Assam Government employees belonging to the Muslim community were allowed to leave office at 4.30 PM, half an hour earlier than the scheduled time, during the month of Ramzan commencing from June 29. An official release on Friday said the employees concerned would be allowed to leave office early on condition that they have to attend office half an hour earlier at 9.30 AM. Besides, Muslim employees working in the secretariat could avail this option subject to the disposal of Assembly related works, if any, the release added. (PTI)
NSCN-K cadre surrenders in Arunachal
Itanagar: One NSCN-K female cadre of Songku Havi village under Khimiyong circle of Changlang district in Aruanchal Pradesh on Friday surrendered before the Changlang Police Station. The cadre was forcibly picked up by NSCN-K with two other girls from Changlang Town in 2010 and imparted them training in their camp in Myanmar, an official report said. She left the camp in 2013 and remained at her house with intention of not returning to the organisation. The surrendered cadre is being further interrogated to check her involvement in any criminal activities. The cadre was approached by the Changlang Police through sources to surrender before the police since she has not indulged in any nefarious activities of the organisation actively and after successful persuasion, the cadre has decided to surrender before the police. Interpol issues Red Corner notice against 2 murder accused
Agartala: Interpol has issued Red Corner notice against two criminals, who were allegedly involved in the killing of a contractor in Tripura in November last, police said on Friday. The notice was issued on June 18 last against the two — Mujibur Rahaman and Balaram Rajbhar — who were involved in the murder of Dilip Ghosh here on November 9 last, SP Police Control Uttam Bhaumick told reporters. Five criminals were involved in the killing. Of them, three had been arrested and the two have been absconding, he said. The Tripura government had requested the Union Home Ministry to take up the matter with Interpol. It is suspected that the criminals might have sneaked into neighbouring Bangladesh. (PTI)
Heavy rains affect life in Tirap
Itanagar: Torrential rains for the past few days at Khonsa and its peripheral areas in Tirap district have left a trail of destruction at many places in and around the district headquarters town. Roads have been washed away at various locations while the main road from Khonsa to Longding was blocked for the past few days due to a massive landslide near the Sweet Fall, Tirap information and public relation officer D Bosai said on Friday. The road is the lifeline for both the Tirap and Longding district. (PTI)
