Prohibitory orders imposed in Mokokchung, West imphal

Kohima:  The Mokokchung district administration on Friday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in Mokokchung town for over a week in view of infighting in the ruling Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF).
An official statement said the the prohibitory orders which came into effect from today and would continue till July 4 was clamped apprehending law and order situation in the town.
The apprehension followed what the administration said “the confrontational situation caused within the of NPF unit, Mokokchung”. NPF sources said the party’s Mokokchung unit had been dissolved by the NPF Central Office in Kohima on June 22 for raising question against the decision of the Central office regarding removal of two ministers from the newly installed TR Zeliang led DAN government.
Former Health and Family Welfare Minister Imkong L Imchen and Youth Resources and Sports Minister Merentoshi R Jamir were not included in the the council of ministers in the new DAN-III government.
Following the dissolution, two blasts occurred inside the NPF Mokokchung Division office on June 23 midnight, though there was no casualty.
The sources said while the NPF Central Office was contemplating reorganization of the district unit, the removed office bearers of Mokokchung have threatened not to allow it under any circumstance.
Meanwhile, West Imphal  authorities has imposed prohibitory orders in the district as protestors blocked roads in protest against the killing of a policeman.
Educational institutes were also closed down on Friday in some parts of West Imphal  as protestors blocked roads.
Under Sub-Section 2 of Section 144 CrPC, assembly of five or more persons, carrying of sticks, stones, firearms and weapons were prohibited. Security has also been beefed up.
JAC launched a stir demanding immediate arrest of those accused for the brutal killing of Sub Inspector M Krishnadas.
Life remained disturbed mostly in Patsoi Assembly constituency and surrounding areas.
M Krishnadas was found murdered near FCS godown on June 21. As people of different communities live in the affected areas and the body was found in a locality dominated by another community, civil organisations have appealed to maintain calm.
United Committee Manipur, All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation, Kabui Mothers’ Association and other bodies have also appealed to the government to nab the perpetrators and restore peace in the area. (Agencies)
