Meghalaya labour trainee dies in Haryana

SHILLONG: One Jitendra Barman, a resident of West Garo Hills, who had been undergoing training at an institute in Haryana, died on Saturday under mysterious circumstances.

The Director, Employment and Craftsmen Training, Shillong said in a statement on Sunday that the cause of death was being probed. “As per the information available so far it appears to be a case of accidental death,” he added.

Jitendra, son of Paresh Barman, from Bogularbhita village under Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills, was joined a short-term training course in Multi Purpose Health care worker at HP Institute, Jagdishpur, Sonepat, Haryana, which is registered as a Vocational Training provider (VTP) under the SDI scheme.

The Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Labour department, has coordinated with the VTP to complete the required formalities including post-mortem and police investigation.

Senior officials of the State Labour and Police departments are in touch with the Haryana Government officials to follow up the investigation.

Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, will meet the bereaved family members shortly.
