Rijiju may visit State next month

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju told the delegation of Opposition legislators who had met him Delhi that he might visit Shillong between July 6 to 9 and might also pay a visit to Tura to take a stock of the situation in Garo Hills.

UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh, who was also part of the delegation, informed on Sunday that the delegation of the Opposition was in New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to brief him about the prevailing the law and order situation in Garo Hills, the impact of NGT ban on the State and the alleged nexus between the militants and the Chief Minister.

In the absence of the Home Minister on Saturday, the delegation had called on Rijiju on Sunday and placed its demands before him.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was also submitted to Rijiju.

A second delegation will meet the Union Home Minister on Tuesday. NPP chief Purno Sangma will also be a part of the delegation.
