YSRCP asks Telangana govt to return land to APNGO

Hyderabad:  YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday demanded that the Telangana government should return the land in Hyderabad to the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers (APNGO) Union, which it has taken in its possession. Expressing “serious objection” to the Telangana government’s move of land resumption (process of acquisition, objections etc) of 189 acres land, alloted to the APNGOs (employees of residuary Andhra Pradesh government) about two decades ago, Reddy said APNGOs have already spent crores of rupees on the development of the land. The Andhra Pradesh government should intervene in the matter and stand by the APNGOs, he said in a statement here. The Telangana government reportedly resumed the land alloted to the APNGOs (meant for housing) in the city as it has been lying unused. (PTI)

Security at five NWR stations stepped up after bomb threats

Jaipur:  Security at five major railway stations under North Western Railway, in Rajasthan were on Friday tightened up following bomb threats at the stations. “The threat was given in a letter which was delivered at the Firozpur railway division office of the Northern Railway. Among, other stations, the sender has named Ganganagar, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur and Ajmer railway stations in Rajasthan as target for the blasts,” Chief Public Relations Officer, North Western Railway (NWR), Tarun Jain said. He said local police authorities as well as the RPF have been alerted and the security at these stations has been tightened as a precautionary measure. (PTI)

Cinema hall, medical store gutted in fire

Indore: Fire broke out on Friday at a cinema hall and a pharmacy shop in the city in separate incidents, police said. No one was reported hurt in the two mishaps, they said. The blaze erupted at the pharmacy shop near a temple on Nasiya road in the wee hours today, Superintendent of Police (Fire), Hemlata Kureel said. Later, a movie multiplex ‘Velocity’ on the ring road on city’s outskirts also caught fire, she said. No one was hurt in the two incidents, she said, adding that hall no. 2 in the multiplex was completely gutted in the fire, the official said. Fire brigade officials took nearly three hours to control the flames. About 10 water tankers were used to douse the fire in the multiplex, the SP added. (PTI)

Govt scientist caught taking photos inside assembly

Kolkata: A senior scientist was on Friday spotted clicking photos with his mobile camera inside the assembly when a minister was replying to a debate on the grant for budgetary demands. The mobile of the senior scientist with the Science and Technology ministry, P Hazra, was immediately seized and he was made to sit in a room outside the House. Before the conclusion of the first half, Speaker Biman Banerjee called him and sought an explanation from him following which he tendered apology and the mobile was returned with the photos deleted. Government Chief Whip Sobhandeb Chatterjee expressed anguish over repetition of such incidents and urged the Speaker to take appropriate measures to curb this. Hazra was caught taking photos when minister of the department Rabi Ranjan Chatterjee was giving his reply to the debate on the grant for budgetary demands amidst the pandemonium as shouting Left Front members occupied the well demanding the Chief Minister’s statement on the Tapas Pal incident. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee was not present in the house. (PTI)
