SHILLONG: The State Government will not revoke the termination of services of teachers following the education scam though a case is pending in the Supreme Court.
The tainted teachers from East Khasi Hills, whose services were terminated, had filed a case in the apex court.
An Education department official said that the Government will file an affidavit in this regard in the Supreme Court.
It was on February 28 this year that the Education department had terminated the services of as many as 246 tainted teachers following the recommendations of High Level Scrutiny Committee which probed the education scam.
However, the Supreme Court in an interim order on April 21 this year had made the formation of the Scrutiny Committee non-functional by staying the order of the Division bench of the Gauhati High Court which facilitated the formation of Scrutiny Committee.
It was based on the special leave petition of 40 tainted teachers in Khasi Hills that the Supreme Court had made the Scrutiny Committee non-functional and indirectly , the recommendations of the Scrutiny Committee to terminate the services of the teachers in Khasi Hills have also become non-operational.
There are reports that the tainted teachers from Khasi Hills who got the interim relief from the Court continue to teach in various schools in the district.
However, a senior official of the Education department said that the recommendation of the Scrutiny Committee to terminate the services of tainted teachers still stands as the Government will file an affidavit in the Supreme Court when the case will come up for hearing on Monday.
The Supreme Court had fixed July 7 to hear the views of State Government, state education department and also the eligible candidates to any objections on the interim order passed by the Court. It is expected that the eligible candidates who are still waiting for appointment will make submissions before the Supreme Court.
