SHILLONG: The National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) will soon be floating tender to invite bidders for construction of a new market complex at Polo Market.
The NBCC, which is the implementing agency of the project, will be convening a meeting with the Urban Affairs department on July 15 before floating tender.
A senior official in the Urban Affairs department on Sunday informed that the Union Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation had allotted the project to the NBCC.
“The Urban Affairs department will not be involved in the implementation of the project. The department will only monitor the implementation of the project and the utilization of the fund,” a senior official informed.
While informing that so far the Ministry had earmarked a total amount of Rs 23 crore for the project, a senior official informed that the Ministry would not revise the fund that had been allocated for the project.
“We would have to find funds through other sources to meet the escalated cost of the project,” a senior government official added.
The Government has heaved a sigh of relief after the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and the East Khasi Hills district administration demolished several shops in Polo Market in accordance with the High Court of Meghalaya verdict passed in favour of the State Government on April 24 last paving way for the construction of the new shopping mall.
