SHILLONG: A complaint has been lodged with the Chief Secretary WMS Pariat and also with Meghalaya DGP PJP Hanaman against police official Vivekananda Singh, Officer in-charge Sohra Police station for reprimanding a junior engineer for going to the media after she was suspended.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the CSWO alleged that Singh had reprimanded a Junior Engineer identified as Primadona Mawkhlieng for meeting NGOs and for also going to the media with regards to her sudden suspension by the Government.
“We are aware that any corruption has to be exposed and the general public has to be made conscious and we are
also aware that the government servants cannot hide these things from the public”, the CSWO in the letter said.
According to CSWO, an officer informing the general public through the media about a serious forgery, cannot be reprimanded.
The Junior Engineer had reported the forgery of the measurement book on the Black Topping of Rural Road Scheme (BTRRS) to the BDO, Shella Bholaganj Block, East Khasi Hills district, but he failed to file an FIR in this regard, when the document in his office was tampered. Instead he had the cashier temporarily appointed back dated as an Accountant and files were kept in her custody in her quarter, the CSWO alleged.
“We are shocked that the public are cautioned by many police personnel from approaching NGOs and media and we would be glad if this order is published or given in writing so that public are made aware and we can also be informed”, the CSWO added.
