Pierce Brosnan gets strength from faith
Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan credits his faith for helping him through tough times, such as the death of his first wife. The 61-year-old actor was left devastated when his first wife Cassandra Harris died from ovarian cancer in 1991 and his adopted daughter Charlotte succumbed to the same disease last year, and thinks his religious beliefs and upbringing have given him the strength he needed to carry on, reported New York daily News.
“I would say faith, being Irish, being Catholic, it’s ingrained in my DNA,” Braosnan said. The ‘Long Way Down’ actor, who is now married to Keely Shaye Smith, also admitted to being a keen artist. “I paint landscapes, figuratives. I painted all my life. In fact, I started as a commercial artist,” he said. (PTI)
Haider’s posters unveiled
The first promotional posters of Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film ‘Haider’, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Hamlet’, were out on Tuesday.
The makers have released four posters of the film, set in Kashmir. In one of the posters, a blood-drenched Shahid Kapoor is seen embracing Shraddha Kapoor. Another shows Shahid, who plays the titular role, holding a gun in one of his hands. The movie also stars Tabu and Kay Kay Menon in pivotal roles. Shot predominantly in Kashmir, ‘Haider’ completes Bhardwaj’s Shakespeare trilogy after ‘Maqbool’ (2003) and ‘Omkara’ (2006). The film, produced by Bhardwaj and Siddharth Roy Kapur, is scheduled to release on October 2 with Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Bang Bang’. (PTI)
Ruskin’s ‘Maharani’ to be adapted for TV show
Noted author Ruskin Bond’s 2012 novel ‘Maharani’ will be getting a small screen treatment soon for a show. Doordasrshan’s popular TV show Ek Tha Rusty’s next episodes will be based on the Bond’s 2012 novel which talks about a spoilt, selfish, beautiful widow of the Maharajah of Mastipur.
“The next 26 episodes will be about the sensational novel of Ruskin Bond. The story caters to all, adults and families. Its shooting is going on,” said Subhadarshini Singh, producer-director of the show. Singh said the stories of Bond that will be shown on the show will no more have themes just for children. “The themes now will have murder, mystery, betrayal, which are not for children. So, the scope is widened and the show is for families and grown-ups,” she said. ‘Maharani’ is one of the mature novels penned by Bond, who is famous for writing children books. His novels ‘The Blue Umbrella’, ‘A Flight of Pigeons’ (Junoon) and ‘Susanna’s Seven Husbands’ (Saat Khoon Maaf) have also been made into Bollywood films. (PTI)
SRK wishes luck to Ajay Devgn for ‘Singham 2’
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan onTuesday wished his ‘Cheenai Express’ helmer Rohit Shetty and actor Ajay Devgn luck for their upcoming action film ‘Singham 2’. With the gesture, Shah Rukh, 48, has buried the hatchet with Ajay which they developed during the release of their 2012 films ‘Son of Sardar’ and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (JTHJ).
Devgn had accused Yash Raj Films of using their position to edge his ‘Son of Sardar’ out of the competition by acquiring prime slots for ‘JTHJ’ screening.
“Want to wish Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn and their whole team of ‘Singham 2’ the best of luck. May you entertain us as you have been doing for years,” Shah Rukh posted on Twitter. ‘Singham 2’, the reboot of hit 2011 film of the same name, also stars Kareena Kapoor and is currently on the post-production stage. It is expected to hit theatres on August 15. (PTI)
