SHILLONG: With the BJP-led NDA government stressing on fast growth, the Co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board, John Kharshiing has urged the Centre to prioritise the construction of rural roads in Meghalaya and the rest of the Northeast on war footing.
In his tweet to the Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, Kharshiing said that the Centre should work tirelessly to ensure that the rural people get quality roads.
He also asked the Centre to  sanction funds for the construction of 10 lakh  rural roads for the states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal, and Assam so that the vision of present Government is achieved.
Meghalaya alone requires separate fund for 40,000 kms of quality rural roads and bridges, he said.
The tweet was also forwarded to Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh and DoNER Minister, VK Singh.
