SHILLONG: More time was sought to file affidavit by the State Government and other parties regarding the pending case related to education scam in the Supreme Court.

An official source said that the matter came up on July 7 in the Court of Registrar, Supreme Court and it was decided that the concerned parties will file their replies shortly.

Earlier, the interim order of the Supreme Court had stayed the formation of High Level Scrutiny Committee which probed the education scam.

On February 28 this year, the State Government had terminated the services of 246 tainted teachers based on the recommendations of the High Level Scrutiny Committee. However, some of the tainted teachers from East Khasi Hills challenged this and in an interim order on April 21 this year, the Supreme Court made the formation of the Scrutiny Committee non-functional and the teachers from Khasi Hills sector who filed a Special Leave Petition got interim relief.

The State Government has already decided not to revoke the order of termination of services of 246 tainted teachers and deiced to file the affidavit. However, the tainted teachers from East Khasi Hills continue to teach in schools though their services were terminated by the State Government. Lawyers representing tainted teachers, affected teachers from East Khasi Hills and affected teachers from Dadenggre were present during the recent hearing in Delhi.
