Coal laden trucks continue to ply despite NGT order

NONGSTOIN: The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District Nongstoin, has promulgated section 144 CrPC in view of some truck operations involving the transportation coal from West Khasi Hills District and in doing so they have been using tarpaulin sheets to cover the bodies of the trucks to disguise their load in the trucks.

A press statement issued by the District magistrate said that it was also found that some trucks owners and drivers were topping their coal-laden trucks with timber as a strategy to conceal their illegal contraband.

Therefore the District Magistrate has strongly pass the order that all trucks plying in West Khasi Hills District on routes from Nongstoin to Shillong, Shallang to East Garo Hills and towards Aradonga shall not use tarpaulin to cover the trucks bodies or using any others means with a view to concealing the merchandise commodities being transported and also prohibited the transportation of coal from area of West Khasi Hills District to any other District.

The order will come into force with immediate effect and until further order.
