SHILLONG: With a view to reduce unemployment, the District Basin Development Unit (DBDU), West Khasi Hills District, in collaboration with the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition (IHMCTAN), Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, conducted an eight-week training programme specializing in core disciplines of bakery, confectionery, housekeeping and hospitality services for the rural youths of West Khasi Hills at IHMCTAN, Shillong.
The eight-week-long fully residential training programme witnessed participation from as many as 21 youths, including both males and females.
The youths were trained in baking pastries, cakes, cupcakes, preparing variety of Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes. The programme also trained them on the art of housekeeping and hospitality operation.
The Nodal Officer, Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Promotion Programme (IBDLIP), WKH, informed that the DBDU, thanked Vijay Kumar, Principal & Secretary, IHMCTAN, and the entire staff of the Institute.
He also informed that the trainees would be divided into groups and provided with additional training in self-help group formations and also providing them with financial assistance that would enable them to start their businesses on their own.
