NEW DELHI: “You have enjoyed power a lot. Now you agitate on the streets.”
This was the terse advice of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to Congress in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Incidentally, SP was a key outside supporter of Congress for ten long years when it was in power in UPA-I and UPA-II. Congress has now the lowest ever tally of 44 in the 543-member House.
The angry remark by Yadav came when he was asked by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to resume the discussion on the Union Budget 2014-15.
His remark came amid the din created by opposition members especially Congress demanding an immediate statement from the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik’s meeting with the 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
Later when Congress started objecting to the decision on referring to standing committee a bill concerning SC and ST, Kharge even went to Yadav whom the Speaker had called to resume the debate on Budget.
Kharge was at the receiving end from the Speaker too with Mahajan wondering more than once as to “what has happened to him today” apparently referring to his unusual belligerence as he himself along with party colleagues had stormed the Well for some time on the Vaidik issue.
“Don’t you want a discussion on the Budget?”, she asked an agitated Kharge.
The Speaker came down hard on the AAP member Bhagwant Mann who angrily trooped into the well expressing displeasure for not allowing him to raise a question on power situation in Punjab.
“I am warning you. Understand that these type of things are not proper. Go back to your seat”, she told him sternly.
“Please learn the way, you are new,” she said. (PTI)
