Guwahati: Assam police have identified four militants belonging to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) or the NDFB-S who were involved in last week’s abduction and killing of four persons at Labdanguri under Gobardhana police station of Baksa district of Bodoland Territorial Autonomus District Council (BTC) areas of Assam.
The culprits could be pinpointed after police had arrested and interrogated total eight persons in connection with the murder that triggered communal tension in the area. Assam police on Friday informed that the main culprits behind the killing were identified as Lengra alias Sahash, Biliphang, Gobla Basumatary and Soniram Daimari alias Saiklung who are members of NDFB(S) militant group.
They had abducted and killed Rubul Amin, Saddam Hussain, Abu Bakkar Siddique and Ataur Rahman at Labdanguri in Baksa district on Friday night.
Meanwhile, curfew has been relaxed in tense Baksa district during the daytime while police have set up 23 temporary police pickets to instill confidence and ensure dominance in Baksa district.
Government of Assam is processing construction of 28 barracks for those pickets.
Some more vulnerable pockets have been identified and another 10 security posts will be functional within 15 days. Now these areas have been being covered by patrolling.
Police and security forces have geared up vigil along the border with Bhutan as well the entire district and adjoin areas of Barpeta district to prevent any untoward incident as a sequel to abduction and killing of the four persons belonging to the minority community.
Even media persons were not allowed the visit the spot in Baksa district from where the slam persons were abducted or the families of the killed persons in the adjoining Barpeta district.
Assam police today recovered one Ashok Suklavaidya of Badarpur of Karimganj district of south Assam who was found missing since he had closed his shop on July 13 evening. He could be recovered after police mounted pressure on the families of the three suspects involved in the abduction.
