SHILLONG: Though the durations of load shedding have been reduced, yet Shillongites continue to suffer from poor power supply.
MeECL senior officer Elias Lyngdoh on Friday said that the MeECL is still continuing with two hour of load shedding in the morning.
Apart from load shedding, power supply often gets scrapped due to unknown reasons and on Thursday night power was cut in many localities of Shillong like Rilbong, Jhalupara and others areas.
Interestingly, when many residents were calling up the MeECL complaint cell, their phones were disconnected.
Reacting to a query, Elias Lyngdoh said that the state is getting around 120 mw from the Myntdu Leshka Hydro Power project whereas the Umiam power project which has an installed capacity of 185 mw is producing around 50 mw.
“Now the state is very much dependent on the power supply of Myntdu Leshka project,” Lyngsdoh said.
Though it’s raining a bit, the MeECL says that a lot more rain is required for the Umiam Lake to be filled and once the river gets fill, the power scenario in the state would largely improve.
The state at the moment is also getting a share of around 100 mw from other grids and companies.
