Discovery of new ornamental fish species – Microphis ignoratus
Itanagar: The Zoology department of Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) at Pasighat in East Siang district has claimed discovery of a new ornamental fish species – Microphis ignoratus, from a river. The fish was discovered for the first time in Indian subcontinent from a tributary of Siang River near Sigar village of the district recently, college’s Zoology department head Keshav Kumar Jha said in a statement on Monday. “The presence of this freshwater pipefish in India is a new record and was never observed by any other researchers before even in the freshwater system of the subcontinent,” Jha said. There are 28 different identified fish species of Microphis (pipefish and sea horses) under the Sygnathidae family, both freshwater and marine, which are reported from various geographical corners of the world. Out of these, five species are reported in freshwater system in the Asian continent. (PTI)
Nagaland Assembly Secretariat staff body calls off stir
Kohima: The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association(NASSA) on Monday called off their agitation after the authority arrived at a negotiable solution with the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Deputy Secretary and Nagaland Assembly Secretary. According to a release the NASSA has expressed its gratitude to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker,Assembly Secretary and Administrative Officer for settling the matter amicably. The Budget Session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly will begin in the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday. (UNI)
Two UPLA militants nabbed
Guwahati: Two United Peoples’ Liberation Army (UPLA) militants have been apprehended by security forces in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Police and Army launched a joint operation at Hamren in West Karbi Anglong last night and apprehended the duo, a hardcore and a linkman, a defence spokesman said today. The UPLA cadre has been identified as Pratap Hanse and the linkman as Julias Engti alias Makoi, sources added. (PTI)
Nagaland Assembly Budget Session begins tomorrow
Kohima: The fifth session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), which will be Budget Session, will begin tomorrow at the Nagaland Assembly Hall, at the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat at Kohima. Nagaland Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the State Budget for the year 2014-2015 tomorrow and general discussions on the budget will take place on July 24 and 25. Among the many other issues, the Nagaland Investment Board and the new Nagaland Coal Policy are likely to figure in discussion during the session for introduction, discussion and adoption in the House. According to the revised provisional programme, the Assembly Session will witness laying of reports, papers, rules, presentation of committee reports, presentation of Comptroller and the Auditor General of India (C & AG) Report for the year 2012-1013, laying of annual administrative reports and introduction of government bills. On July 26, the Assembly Session will witness business like presentation of Assembly Committee Reports, consideration and passing of private members’ bill, discussion and voting on the demand for grants for the year 2014-15, introduction, consideration and passing of the Nagaland Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2014 and announcement of Revised Constitution of various Financial and Non-Financial Committees and Panel of Chairmen by NLA Speaker Chotisuh Sazo, before the parliamentary House so that it could be adjourned sine die.
