CM’s Social Assistance Scheme
SHILLONG: The mass enrolment drive under the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme for the infirm, widows and persons with disabilities was carried out at Patharkhmah, Ri Bhoi District on Tuesday. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma was present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme was launched to provide financial assistance of Rs 500 a month to each beneficiary. While there is no age bar to avail the scheme for persons with disabilities and widows, a woman has to be 58 years old and a man 60 years old to avail the benefit meant for the infirm.
The scheme was launched in 2012 at Asanang in West Garo Hills.
The Chief Minister inspected the enrolment so as to ensure that no deserving beneficiaries are left out.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma said that the launching of the CM’s Social Assistance Scheme is a demonstration of the commitment of the Government to fulfill the aspirations of the people and to ensure that the development agenda of the Government benefits the masses. The Chief Minister also said that all efforts are being made to ensure that the developmental activities of the Government reach the people, especially those in the rural areas.
He also stated that the State Government is set to ensure that the economy of the people living in the rural areas is uplifted through livelihood opportunities in different sectors particularly in agriculture and tourism.
