 Custodial death in GH

SHILLONG: With the delay in getting the FSL reports, the West Garo Hills district administration has sent a third letter on Wednesday to the Director FSL, Shillong to provide toxicology (blood analysis) and viscera reports related to the death of Balsan Marak in judicial custody on May 20.

Pending the FSL reports, the district administration and the police are not being able to file a counter affidavit in the High Court of Meghalaya after the relatives filed a petition in the court which in turn issued notices to the police and the officials of district administration on June 18 giving a deadline of one month.

Moreover, due to the delay in receiving the FSL reports, the magistrate DD Shira and the Commissioner of Divisions PW Ingty are not able to complete two separate probes into the custodial death.

The West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi said on Thursday that he had written a third letter to the Director FSL on Wednesday urging him to provide the copies of toxicology and viscera reports at the earliest.

While the first letter was sent to the Director FSL on May 25, the second was sent on July 2.
