MP: Lokayukta police conduct raids on housed of govt official
Gwalior: The Lokayukta police on Friday conducted raids at two houses of an official of Narmada Valley Development Authority at Barwani and Gwalior, and recovered assets worth over Rs 90 lakh that were disproportionate to his known sources of income. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted searches at the residences of agriculture development and extension officer Rajendra Kumar Saral, at present posted with NVDA at Barwani, said lokayukta superintendent of police Santosh Singh Gaur. Title documents of three agricultural lands, a residential plot, two houses, a car and as many as 40 insurance policies were found in the searches, Gaur said. The aggregate value of his assets discovered so far was Rs 90 lakh, Gaur said, adding that further probe was on. (PTI)
No significant increase in bud allocation for health, edu:Govt
New Delhi: There have been hardly any increase in public spending in key social sectors in the last four years, with government allotting 3.3 and 1.4 per cent of GDP on education and health expenditure respectively in 2013-14 compared to 3.3 and 1.3 per cent in 2012-13, Lok Sabha was informed today. The percentage GDP expenditure figures for education and health in 2010-11 were 3.1 pc and 1.3 pc and in 2011-12 were 3.1 pc and 1.2 pc respectively, marking in fact a decrease in health budget, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said. Quoting Economic Survey of 2013-14, he said other social sector departments too saw little rise in their budgetary allocation as it was 2.5 and 2.4 per cent of GDP in 2013-14 and 2012-13 respectively. The budgetary support to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has also not increased much. It was Rs 480 cr and Rs 460 cr in the revised estimate for financial year 2013-14 and FY 2012-13 respectively against the corresponding budget estimate of Rs 531 cr and Rs 518 cr. The budget estimate for ICMR expenditure remains Rs 531 cr for 2014-15 as well, according to official figures. (PTI)
Number of new HIV infection has decreased by 57 pc: Govt
New Delhi: There has been a 57 per cent decrease in the number of new cases of HIV infection in last decade in the country, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said in Lok Sabha on Friday. He also said that the number of HIV positive cases was 2.39 lakh in 2013-14 against 2.85 lakh in 2011-12. Under the National AIDS Control Programme IV (2012-17), the government’s objective was to reduce new infections further by 50 per cent and provide comprehensive care and support to all persons living with HIV and AIDS, the minister said.
