NGT likely to allow transportation of coal

JOWAI: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) may allow coal miners and traders to transport their mineral produces post the hearing scheduled on August 1.

Leaders of the Jaintia Hills Coal Miners and Dealers Association (JHCMDA) and State Coordination Committee of Coal Miners and Dealer Forum (SCCoCM&DF) said that the NGT ban on transportation of coal from Meghalaya to other parts of the country and neighbouring Bangladesh is likely to be lifted after the next hearing.

The leaders of the coal miners and dealers forum informed that after another petition was filed with the NGT by its chairman and secretary, the NGT Eastern Zone, which includes West Bengal held its hearing in New Delhi on Thursday.

“We were informed by our lawyers that the NGT will allow transportation of coal,” SCCoCM&DF and JHCMDA leader, B Swer Swer said.
