JOWAI: The Jaintia Journalist Association (JJA) has decided to boycott the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) sessions to protest against the Council’s, particularly the Legislative Department’s, lack of cooperation with media persons.

JHADC allegedly, never supply materials related to sessions including lists of business, question and reply papers and other documents which are required by journalists to disseminate accurate information to the people.

“They never supply us with any information that would help us to disseminate the right and correct information to the people”, a letter to the JHADC leader signed by JJA General Secretary stated.

“When the KHADC and even the state Assembly can provide us with detailed information, why not the JHADC? “, a Jowai based journalist questioned.

This is not the first time that journalists in Jaintia hills are facing difficulties in collecting detailed information from the district, particularly during the summer, winter and the budget session.

Earlier, not even chairs were provided to media persons despite the presence of a press gallery inside the Hall.

Only during the last budget session, tables and chairs with few water bottles were provided however no documents related to the session were given to the reporters.

The current JHADC summer session that will last for two days began on Friday July 25 will conclude on Monday.
