Boy killed in road mishap

SHILLONG: A boy was killed on the spot when a vehicle hit and dragged him for about 20 meters on Sunday.

Police said that the 16-year-old boy identified as Sunil Kumar Rai residing near Meter Factory was hit by the vehicle near Lumjingshai, MeECL office at 8 am on Sunday. The boy was carrying milk for sale.

An alert was sounded to all police units and at 12 noon the vehicle involved in the accident was stopped at Civil Hospital point, but in vain as the driver managed to escape.

The driver identified as Norbet Malngiang from Mawlai, Umjaiur was finally arrested near State Central Library. Police also seized the vehicle.
