Kohima: Tension once again re-erupted in Chandalashung ‘B’ Village under Wokha district of Nagaland, when an Adivasi mob armed with ‘bows, arrows and catapults,’ coming from Assam side attacked villagers on Saturday morning.

According to sources, the attack took place after Nagaland Police personnel pulled out of the area in the morning. Few youths were reportedly injured when Adivasis (tea garden labourers) attacked the villagers using catapults, but the arrows failed to hit the targets.

The incident was promptly reported to the state higher authorities, said sources. Ralan Area SDO (Civil) confirmed that tension was running high in the area following the incident. He said authorities were keeping close vigil round the clock.

Meanwhile, Bhandari constituency MLA Mhonlumo Kikon has strongly condemned the attack. He said the attackers and the Assam side have blatantly violated the accepted terms of agreement recently signed by the Adivasi tenant and the Naga landowner. (UNI)
