Minor boy abducted and killed for ransom
Rangia: A 12-year old boy was abducted and killed for ransom by a man at Changsari in Kamrup (Rural) district, police said on Monday. Nipen Nath, a class six student of Changsari High School was missing since Sunday afternoon and at 10 PM his abductor Deepjyoti Kalita demanded Rs 10 lakh from the boy’s father for his release, police said. Tracing his mobile tower, Deepjyoti was arrested on Monday and after confessing his crime he led the police to the boy’s body which he had concealed in a box in his house near that of Nipen. The owner of the house where he was a tenant was also arrested. Deepjyoti is an accused in another murder case of his young cousin last year for a ransom of Rs 25 lakh and had even collected Rs two lakh after he killed him, police said. Enraged over the incident, local people gheraoed Changsari police station demanding punishment to the culprit. (PTI)
Business establihements in Nagaland down shutters
Kohima: Business establishments in many places of Nagaland downed shutters in a lightning six-hour shut down across the state on Monday. The agitation, from 6 am to 12 pm, was called by Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT). ACAUT vice-chairman Joel Nillo Kath told PTI that the shut-down was called to express resentment against GPRN and NSCN for the ‘illegal confinement’ of the body’s Nagaland secretary Solomon L Awomi for three days and interrogation with his hands tied and eyes blind folded. The protest was near-total across the state barring Mokokchung town, Kath said. Normal functioning of the business establishments in the state commenced from afternoon, he added. (PTI)
Mizoram Home min felicitates Shaurya Chakra recipient
Aizawl: Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana on Monday felicitated Lallawmzuala of the 18 Rashtriya Rifles who recently received Shaurya Chakra from President Pranab Mukherjee. Lalzirliana handed over Rs five lakh in cash and a citation to Lallawmzuala, who hails from remote Tuahzawl village in western Mizoram. Lallawmzuala during an intense combat with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir on July 23 last year killed commander of the Lashkar-e-Toiba where he also received bullet injuries in his leg. The terrorist commander Lallawmzuala gunned down was one of the most wanted terrorists having Rs 125 lakh prize on his head and was one of the masterminds of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. (PTI)
Three killed in accident
Rangia (Assam): Three labourers were killed and 11 others injured, five of them seriously, when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with another four wheeler at Deoduar in Kamrup (Rural) district on Monday. The incident occurred when the mini truck, in which the labourers were moving, had a head on collision with another mini truck on the National Highway 31 near Changsari, police said. Three labourers died on the spot. The seriously injured were admitted to the Gauhati Medical college Hospital, they added. (PTI)
