SHILLONG: A meeting of the local peace committee was held on Monday at Umpongwiang village under Khanduli in West Jaintia Hills, one of the disputed areas between Assam and Meghalaya.

West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert Lyngdoh informed that members of both the Pnar and the Karbi communities resolved to maintain peace in the area to avoid any controversy.

A decision was also taken to cooperate with each other on all matters. The meeting also decided that a cultural programme will be held on August 30 where cultures of both the communities will be highlighted for strengthening the relations between the two communities.
