SHILLONG: Mawlai legislator Embhahlang Syiemlieh on Tuesday urged upon the State Government to speed up the construction of the alternate road near the Shillong Polytechnic in Mawlai Kynton Massar.

“People of the constituency have been anticipating this alternative road for more than three decades now,” Syiemlieh said after conducting an inspection of the existing road here.

According to him, residents of Mawlai Kynton Massar and Mawlai Mawdatbaki would be greatly benefitted with the early completion of the alternative road.

Meanwhile, Principal of Shillong Polytechnic, W.L. Warjri, expressed his gratefulness to the PWD (Building) for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The State Government has sanctioned Rs.3.6 crore for undertaking the construction works.

The State Government had, in May this year, floated a tender inviting Class-I contractors to participate in the bidding process.

Residents of Umparmaw in Nongpathaw locality under Mawlai Mawdatbaki have been demanding an alternate approach road which would bypass the Shillong Polytechnic campus since the existing road linking Umsohkrot with Kynton Massar is passing through the Polytechnic which is giving rise to lot of anti-social activities within the Polytechnic campus.
