11 malaria deaths in State

SHILLONG: Malaria has claimed 11 lives in the State till June this year, a health official said.

Four deaths took place in West Khasi Hills, 3 in East Khasi Hills, 2 in South Garo Hills and one each in East Garo Hills and Ribhoi.

No case was reported from West Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills.

There is a reduction in malaria deaths in the last few years. There was a time when as many 197 persons died mostly in Garo Hills due to the outbreak of malaria.
