SHILLONG: In order to provide an opportunity for the youth and student community to explore their interests and hone their innate abilities through a range of activities and workshops, the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan will host the first-ever Youth Fest 2014 at U Soso Tham Auditorium on Friday.
The participants will have a venue to show off their talents, learn about new ideas and opportunities, work together as a group as well as expose them to a healthy dose of competition.
Some of the workshops to be held are Back to Our Roots – a workshop on heritage by Desmond Kharmawphlang, NEHU, stage presence and acting by award-winning actor Merlvin Mukhim, Effective Communication and Life Skills by Mark Laitflang Stone, MD, Group Avenues, Indigenous Arts and Craft by noted artist Careen J. Langstieh and self-defence techniques by medal-winning State Karateka Linza Fenny Syiem. Featured at Youth Fest 2014 will be a unique art installation, bringing together three components that are key to appreciating the traditions of Meghalaya and the people’s historical connection with nature – root bridges, sacred groves and monoliths.
