4-lane project leaves people high and dry

NONGPOH: The ongoing construction of the four lane project along NH 40 has left three water tanks in 20 Mer Village dry after pipes meant for supplying water to the tanks were allegedly uprooted during the widening of the roads.

To make things worse, local residents are now forced to spend Rs 2500 a month to meet their water requirements.

The anomaly came to light following an inspection conducted by the KSU, 20 Mer circle. The PHE water tanks were constructed as part of a water supply scheme at a cost of Rs 11.06 lakh in 2007. The Union has urged the state government to conduct an immediate inspection of the tanks and adopt remedial measures to address the concerns of the people.

The Union has also warned of stern action if the concerned authorities fail to comply with their demand.
