Ex-KSU leader’s murder: Woman in police custody

SHILLONG: The court on Friday remanded Melvy Kharwanlang Lyngdoh, suspected to be involved in the murder of former KSU organising secretary Richard Jana Nongbet, to five days in police custody.

“We are still interrogating the lady to establish her involvement in the murder,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said.

Kharkrang ruled out the presence of a third person inside the house when the murder took place.

Meanwhile, sources informed that the lady had asked her 12-year-old daughter to clean the blood stains in the room.

According to sources, the daughter had confirmed that the deceased was still alive when she had touched his body while cleaning the room.

Sources also revealed that the daughter was not present in the house when the incident since she had gone to school.

“She found the deceased lying helplessly on the ground when she returned from school,” the sources said, adding that the girl has been handed over to her relatives.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to collect fresh evidence, police on Friday against visited the rented house of Melvy at Pdeng Shnong near Lumshyiap community hall where Nongbet was found dead on Thursday evening.
