Lajong sign African Cup winner Isaac Chansa

Chansa and Cornell Glen to also play the ISL for NorthEast United FC

SHILLONG: Zambian International & African Cup of Nations, 2012 winner, Isaac Chansa has been signed by Lajong FC and will also be plying his trade for the NorthEast United Football Club in the prestigious Indian Super League, due to start on October 12, 2014.
The club has also confirmed, Cornell Glen will be joining the NorthEast United ranks.
Both Cornell Glen & Isaac Chansa were cleared by ISL organising committee to be the designated International players for NorthEast United.
Chansa a key member of the 2012 African Cup of Nations winning  Zambian side, last played for Zambian Premier League club side Zanaco FC last season before making his move to North East of India.
He has also featured previously for clubs such as Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish Top Division and Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier Soccer League.
Chinese Super League Side Henan Jianye FC secured his services from Orlando Pirates in 2012 for a total deal value worth a little over $1 Million.
He was also part of the Zambian side that took on Japan in the Pre-World Cup 2014 International Friendly in USA.
Chansa whose natural position is in Centre Midfield was quoted saying “I am happy and look forward to this new challenge. I will do my best to contribute in the team’s success in any way I can and repay the faith shown in me by the team management.”
Meanwhile 2006 World Cupper and Trinidad & Tobago’s 5th highest goal scorer ever; Cornell Glen, will also be playing for NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League.
Cornell who scored 13 goals for Shillong Lajong FC in the 2013-14 I-League season, was the only international player from the I-League to have got a go ahead from the League Organising Committee to play in the ISL.
With bags of experience including that of playing in the MLS teams Cornell will bring an edge to the NorthEast United forward line.
Speaking on the occasion, John Abraham, co-owner of NorthEast United & Lajong FC said: “To get an African Cup of Nations Winner & a World Cupper brings in a lot of experience and competitive edge to the team.
“We are happy to have secured their services and looking forward to having them play for the teams.”
Larsing ‘Ming’ Sawyan Managing Director Lajong FC said “Both Cornell & Chansa are proven performers who have competed at the highest levels. ”
“We are happy to have these accomplished and technically gifted players playing alongside our local boys,”. he added.
