TURA: A married woman with a child who was lured away to New Delhi from Garo Hills on the pretext of being given a job made a daring escape by jumping from the roof of a house where she had been held captive after being sold into the flesh trade. The 45-year-old woman hailing from Baksalpara village in North Garo Hills district had left for Delhi last week after being assured of a job in a company by one recruiter from nearby Assam.

“She left her family in search of a job in Delhi after being promised a lucrative post in a private company by one person from Sishapani village of nearby Goalpara,” informed police.

The victim on reaching Delhi was taken into a red light area and sold to a gang. She was kept inside a house but managed to call her relatives in Garo Hills from the mobile phone she had in her possession.

A woman police officer from Tura got in touch with her and directed her to the nearest police station in the national capital.
