8 coal trucks seized, 16 arrested

JOWAI: East Jaintia Hills Police have seized 8 coal-laden trucks and arrested 16 persons, mostly drivers and helpers, for illegally transporting coal from East Jaintia Hills to Cement Plants violating the NGT ban.

“We seized eight trucks and arrested 16 persons last night”, a senior police officer informed The Shillong Time on Tuesday.

Some of the trucks were seized when the loading of coal was going on and some of them were seized from the National Highway, he added.

All the 16 arrested persons were remanded to judicial custody.
