Admin move to encourage people defy HNLC bandh call on I-day
SHILLONG: The East Khasi hills District Administration has lined up several entertainment programmes to denounce the bandh called by proscribed HNLC on August 15.
Informing this here on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the programmes at Khyndaild include choirs, bands, magic show, kidzone for kids, fancy dress competition.
The HNLC called the bandh against the NGT ban on coal mining and also in protest against the Independence Day celebrations.
To mark the occasion, an Independence Day run will also be held from 6.30 am. The run which will begin from Fire Brigade will culminate at Polo .
The most popular attraction in this year’s celebration will be a blind folded bike rally where a person from South India — HG Ley — will dive a Yamaha bike blind folded and he will pass through selected routes.
Goyal told reporters that many hotels of the city such as Pinewood and others would offer fifty per cent discount in their restaurants on August 15.
Special screening of upcoming movies Singham 2 and Hawa Hawai will be held Gold Cinerma and in Payal and Bijou Cinema halls for children and this will be free of cost.
According to Goyal, the entry to the Lady Hydari park and Wards Lake will be kept free on the occasion of Independence Day.
Goyal appealed people to take part in the official function that will be held at Polo Ground at 9 am.
CM reviews I-Day preparedness: Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma held a review meeting on Tuesday on the law and order situation in the state and hoped that people would come out in large numbers defying the bandh call given by HNLC.
The meeting reviewed the preparations for maintenance of law and order in the State ahead of the ensuing Independence Day.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Roshan Warjri, WD Sangma, Parliamentary Secretary In-Charge Home, the Director General of Police, Senior Police Officers and Officers of the Home (Police) Department.
